Privacy Policy for EasyDualSub

EasyDualSub (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how data is handled when you use the EasyDualSub browser extension (“the Extension”).

Our core philosophy is simple: Your viewing history and personal data belong to you.

1. Data We Do Not Collect

EasyDualSub is designed to be a privacy-first tool.

• No Personal Data: We do not collect, store, or transmit your name, email address, IP address, or any personal identifiable information (PII).
• No Tracking: We do not track the videos you watch, your browsing history, or your usage analytics.

2. Permissions We Request and Why

To function correctly, EasyDualSub requires specific browser permissions. Here is exactly what they do:

• Host Permissions (e.g., *://*.netflix.com/*, *://*.youtube.com/*, etc.): The Extension needs to read the video player’s DOM to extract the official subtitle tracks, sync them, and inject the secondary subtitles directly onto your screen. The data stays local on your machine.
• storage: We use your browser’s local storage to save your customization preferences (subtitle size, colors, background opacity, vertical gap, and selected languages). This data never leaves your device.

3. Third-Party Translation Services

If you use the “AI Translation” feature to translate a track that is not officially provided by the streaming platform:

• The original subtitle text is temporarily sent to our secure translation API.
• No video or audio content is ever recorded or transmitted.
• The text is processed solely for the purpose of returning the translated subtitles and is immediately discarded by the translation server. It is not stored or used to train external models.

4. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally to reflect changes in our Extension or for legal reasons. Any updates will be reflected on this GitHub page with an updated “Effective Date”.
